serra do açor – paisagem protegida
The central design challenge for the Paisagem Protegida da Serra do Açor was articulating the immense ecological richness of the protected area within a unified exhibition space.
We needed to build an identity that was robust yet adaptable, honoring the legacy of the landscape while providing a clear, contemporary navigational framework to decode its complex ecosystems.To resolve the tension between detailed information and spatial harmony, our strategy relied on a stark contrast between monumental physical immersion and highly concentrated digital exploration. The physical exhibition features large-scale photographs by Frederico Martinho that completely envelop visitors in the dense forest environment. To complement this, the dense educational content authored by Sílvia Neves (ICNF) was channeled into two interactive tablets. This digital interface maintains the immersive experience by using full-screen background images and overlaying grid systems to organize complex data, allowing visitors to navigate seamlessly through layered information. This also gives them the autonomy to consume shortened overviews or dive into deep scientific texts.
The result is a highly adaptable exhibition design that successfully balances monumental physical imagery with a rigorous typographic system and layered, intuitive digital interfaces.
