rituais, do namoro ao casamento
Courtship and marriage were central rites of passage across all social classes in late 19th- to mid-20th-century northern Portuguese society, rooted in community life among the popular classes, and shaped as strategic alliances by family authority and economic interests among the elites. Presented across two locations — Museu do Traje and Museu de Artes Decorativas — the exhibition explores these contrasting perspectives through their rituals and symbolism, drawing visual inspiration from Love Handkerchiefs, delicate tokens of affection, commitment, and respect.
